What I learned during my ten week internship is how to work individually to reach an end goal in a timely fashion. During the first two weeks of my internship it was my job to create a Twitter and Instagram page for TRiO.
Once I created these social media accounts I created a Hootsuite account to schedule posts over a month in advanced. Hootsuite was a perfect tool when posting consistently on multiple social media platforms.
After scheduling the social media posts, I worked on the TRiO Canvas page. It was my job to add printable files for the TRiO students to utilize, assignments for the advisors to give to their students, and an updated calendar of any workshops that are available in the Fall. This task taught me the importance of organization. To complete this task in a timely fashion, I had to create a task list with due dates attached.
Following my work on Canvas, my boss asked me to create a survey to send out to the TRiO students to get feedback from the students about how the program was doing. This was a week long process that allowed me to experience surveys and how to implement them in the workplace.
To finish off my work at TRiO I was asked to create a Spring 2019 Newsletter to send out to the TRiO students and staff. After writing the newsletter I was a little too quick when sending it out. I made a mistake and sent it out prematurely. There were two misspelled words on the document that I was unable to fix because I sent it out too fast. I learned the importance of having patience when completing this task. If I had waited for my boss to fully confirm the newsletter then I wouldn’t have had any mistakes during my internship.
This internship taught me valuable skills that I will take with me when I leave Central. Organization, time management, and patience is what I learned overall during my internship. I am able to take these skills and implement them in my future workplace. Without this internship, I would not be as prepared as I am now to enter the work field with confidence.
